Welcome New Photographer: Kwadwo Amfo
We are delighted to be welcoming Kwadwo Amfo to our Photography roster!!
Amsterdam-based Kwadwo Amfo was born and raised in Ghana. He developed an early love for textiles and graphic design which led him to the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague to study photography. Social commentary became the base of Amfo’s work, ranging societal beauty standards, identity politics, social inclusion and conformity, and topics on the self and other. His graduation project SILHOUETTE, which investigates and displays representations of misrepresentation of black men, led him to winning the Ron Mandos Photo Talent Award 2022. An annual exhibition that brings together the work of the most promising young artists in the Netherlands. Amfo has since exhibited his work at the Scotia Bank Contact Photo Festival in Toronto, in the Netherlands and Ghana.
Exploring a balance between fantasy and reality, Amfo’s commercial work captures a world full of characters, colours, and contradictions. With a focus on people and culture, his photographs explore narratives that compel the audience to look more carefully at the world around them: to discover and rediscover beauty in unusual places.
